Feeling Ignored?
Posted on 02.16.06 by Christina Jones @ 12:56 pm

Yeah, I bet you are. I feel like I have been ignoring you too! I really do have lots more to say about Week 8, and I fully intend to do it before we move on. I also am going to take the site down for upgrades, so be expecting that within the next week. Any thoughts on our next book study? Here are the choices I have, feel free to add your preference, or another idea in the comments:

I am back!
Posted on 01.10.06 by Christina Jones @ 10:46 am

Ok, I really wanted to get back yesterday (well really, REALLY wanted to get back last Monday), but our family has been plagued with the stomach flu and unfortunately, I could not do everything and it was this group that took the brunt of the disappearance.  I thought we were all done with it last Friday, but then I woke up yesterday with a violent stomach ache, and it was all I could do to get the things I absolutely had to do done.  So rather than wait until next Monday, we are going to lose a day in our study this week and go on from here!  So in the interest of not combining my whining with Dr. Weils great nutrition and wellness help, I am going to end this now, and will start on the Week 6 overview in the next post.

I missed this group, and am glad to be back!
Love,
Christina :)

Going on Christmas hiatus
Posted on 12.21.05 by Christina Jones @ 9:35 am

I just wanted to let you all know that we are going to take a hiatus for the next week and a half or so, due to the holidays.  My family is coming tomorrow from Tennessee, and by the time they leave, it will be next Thursday, so I figured we might as well wait until after the new year to start on Week Six.

I hope you have the very Merriest Christmas, a very Happy New Year, and I hope to see you back on January 2nd!

Love,

Antioxidants
Posted on 12.10.05 by Christina Jones @ 12:37 pm

The supplements Selenum and Vitamin E complete Dr. Weils suggested antioxidant formula (along with the previous weeks supplement suggestions). We hear so much about antioxidants, but I didn’t really know what that meant, so I went to my favorite research place, the Wikipedia and found this about antioxidants (if you know all about them, just skip this):

An antioxidant is a chemical that prevents the oxidation of other chemicals. In biological systems, the normal processes of oxidation (plus a minor contribution from ionizing radiation) produce highly reactive free radicals. These can readily react with and damage other molecules: in some cases the body uses this to fight infection. In other cases, the damage may be to the body’s own cells. The presence of extremely easily oxidisable compounds in the system can “mop up” free radicals before they damage other essential molecules.

Food produces free radicals (oxidants) when metabolized, and virtually all studies of mammals have concluded that a restricted calorie diet extends the lifespan of mammals by as much as 100%. This remarkable finding suggests that food is actually more damaging than smoking which takes on average 25% of a person’s lifespan. Antioxidant-rich diets are thought to stave off the effects of aging significantly better than calorie rich, vitamin poor diets.

The following vitamins have shown positive antioxidant effects:

FoodNews.org
Posted on 12.06.05 by Christina Jones @ 3:12 pm

This is the website for the group mentioned in Week Three, Environmental Working Group, that covers information about pesticides in fruits and vegetables. This is a really nice website, and it is full of interesting information–especially if this is as new to any of you as it is to me. Here is the list of the 12 fruits/veggies that are most contaminated, followed by a list of the 12 least contaminated:

Highest in Pesticides

These 12 popular fresh fruits and vegetables are consistently the most contaminated with pesticides — buy these organic.

• Apples
• Bell Peppers
• Celery
• Cherries
• Grapes (imported)
• Nectarines
• Peaches
• Pears
• Potatoes
• Red Raspberries
• Spinach
• Strawberries
——————————————————————————–
Lowest in Pesticides

These 12 popular fresh fruits and vegetables consistently have the lowest levels of pesticides.

• Asparagus
• Avocados
• Bananas
• Broccoli
• Cauliflower
• Corn (sweet)
• Kiwi
• Mangos
• Onions
• Papaya
• Pineapples
• Peas (sweet)

And here you will find a .pdf file of a wallet guide of this information that you can take with you to the store so you won’t forget! Good stuff to know!

I got my selenium this morning, and will start taking it tomorrow. This is such a nice and clear way to learn about this–so much better than trying to bite it all off at once, don’t you think?

Reason, Season, Lifetimes
Posted on 12.01.05 by Christina Jones @ 7:54 am
This has been forwarded around the internet for some time now, but it is a touching sentiment, and always gives you something to think about, especially at this time of the year.  What this has to do with Wellness, I am not sure, but I thought I would share it with you anyway.  :)

People come into your life for a Reason, a Season, or a Lifetime.
When you know which one it is for a person, you will know what to do
for that person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a
need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a
difficulty, to provide you
with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or
spiritually. They may seem like a Godsend, and they are! They are
there for the
reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrong doing on your
part, or at an inconvenient
time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship
to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes
they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is
that our need has been met, our desire
fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been
answered, and now it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has
come to share, grow, or learn. They bring you an experience of peace,
or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It
is real! But, only for a season.

LIFE TIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons: things you must
build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is
to accept the lesson, love the person, and put what you have learned
to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said
that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant
